Exercise #4 - Explorer - Part III


The object of this exercise is to identify the specific steps associated with ONE method of using the Windows95 Explorer to perform common tasks.

Open the Exploring window.   Before starting the exercise, please verify that the View settings found under the Explorer's View-Options menu have been defined as follows:

Checkbox State
Display the full MS-DOS path in the title bar     CHECKED
Hide MS-DOS file extensions for file types that are registered     UNCHECKED
Incude description in bar for right and left panes     CHECKED



 
List the steps required to perform the following tasks using the Windows95 Explorer.

  1. To duplicate an existing system diskette.
  2. To change the label on a previously formatted diskette to bear the electronic label - ASSIGNMENTS - without destroying the files existing on this diskette.
  3. To create a system diskette with a low-density diskette, using a PC's primary floppy drive.
  4. To create a system diskette with a high-density diskette.
  5. To erase all files from a low-density 5.25" diskette using a PC's secondary floppy drive.
  6. To erase all files from a high-density 5.25" diskette using a PC's secondary floppy drive.
  7. To modify the width of the disk DIRECTORY list such that it is twice the width of the TREE list.
  8. To find text file - FILEMGR.OLD - on the root of a computer's primary hard drive, by listing all files by name only.
  9. To find text file - FILEMGR.TYP - on the root of a computer's primary hard drive, such that you are able to list only the file name and the file size.
  10. To find text file - FILEMGR.TYP - on the root of a computer's primary hard drive, such that you are able to list the following file details - name, size, last modification date, last modification time, file attribute.
  11. To find text file - FILEMGR.TYP - on the root of a computer's primary hard drive, such that you are able to list only the file names with the extension .TYP .
  12. To list all files on the root of a computer's primary hard drive, ordered by file name.
  13. To list all files on the root of a computer's primary hard drive, ordered by file size.
  14. To list all files on the root of a computer's primary hard drive, ordered by file type.
  15. To list all files on the root of a computer's primary hard drive, ordered by file last modification date.
  16. To list all files on the root of a computer's primary hard drive, such that file details are displayed with the following font attributes: font - Times New Roman, font style - Regular, font size - 12.
  17. To list all files on the root of a computer's primary hard drive, ordered by file last modification date - in one window, and to list all files on the root directory of a floppy diskette in a second. Both windows are to be simultaneoulsy visible within the Explorer with one window above the other.
  18. To read the contents of the help file to obtain help on how to use the Explorer to start your applications.
  19. To read the contents of the help file to obtain help on how to use the Explorer arrange windows and icons.
  20. To identify the current version number for the Explorer.
